Letters of different types and formats have always been considered as useful means to have relation with others, and successful correspondence will definitely lead to favorable results. Yet, skill in letter-writing tends to have more to do with environment in which we move than with anything else.
Most of us experience gaps between what we think, what we can speak about and what we are able to write. Being able to write good letters demand more than words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs, it needs knowing how to communicate clearly in different circumstances appropriately.
To write a letter, we should always keep in mind that we are needed to be concise, clear, orderly, logical and natural.
In almost everyone’s life, a period comes that it is vital to be able to exchange ideas in writing to give or to seek information, to promote relationship, or extend one. If we avoid letter-writing because of its difficulty, we may never be able to meet the needs of our situation and lose important opportunities.
We live in a world that needs and seeks to solve problems; and correspondence is one of the ways which involves the writer, the subject, and the recipient. There are certain broad frameworks which are helpful and appropriate and within each one there are numerous possible combinations which a letter-writer may use.
However, the nature of writing in general, and letter writing specifically, has changed today as to technology progress and development of internet and social media.
Decades ago, people would create their letters on hard copy, put that in an envelope, stamp on it and took it to the post office and sent it to its destination. Via air- mail, sea or land, it would have taken several days for the recipient receiving the letter. Answering the letter would also needed to go through the same path.
Today, everything happens in a matter of minutes! You compose your letter on your computer or other electronic devices and with pressing a bottom, the letter is received by the recipient letting you know if he/ she has got it or/ and read it!
This simplicity does not eliminate the need for acquiring the knowledge on formal letter- writing.
Therefore, in the present book, the author has tried to compile reliable information which covers both areas in an attempt to meet the needs of university students, businesspeople and those who are interested in this task
